What Are Knockouts?

Knockouts are pre-scored sections molded into an enclosure that can be removed to create openings for conduit, cable glands, and other cable-management components.

For many applications, a knockout can be removed by placing a flat-blade screwdriver in the molded notch and tapping it carefully with a hammer until the knockout separates. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use the proper tools for the enclosure and knockout design.

Using appropriately rated fittings and installing them correctly helps maintain protection against dust, moisture, washdown, and other environmental conditions. Unused openings should also be sealed with properly rated closure plugs.

The completed installation is only as well protected as its weakest entry point, so cable-management components must be selected to match the enclosure and application requirements.
